Climate Actions

Get Ready to go EV Shopping – On April 3, Oregon reopened its Clean Vehicle Rebate Program. However, the state only has funding to keep the program going through June 3 — to qualify for a rebate, you must lease or purchase a vehicle (EV or plug-in hybrid) on or before that date. After the date of purchase, you have six months to apply for your rebate. Everyone, regardless of income, qualifies for a rebate of $2,500 for a new EV. If you make less than 400% of the federal poverty level ($60,000 for a single person or $125,000 for a family of four), you’ll qualify for a rebate of up to $7,500.

Bike Bus

Ashland has 2 bike bus routes! Imagine a group of kids on bikes pedaling a fixed route to school, picking up more mini cyclists as they pass various “stops” — just like a gas-powered school bus.  Click here for more info, including routes and schedule.

Experts share how the Inflation Reduction Act can help you electrify your home (and save money!)

Our Action Team, Electrify Ashland Now!, hosted an event where local and national experts met with more than 70 community members to discuss the importance of home-electrification — and how the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) makes these upgrades more accessible than ever. We discussed the tax rebates and incentives offered, who qualifies for them, and why electrification is crucial to limiting the effects of climate change.

What We’re Watching Now

BUILD: Top 7 Heat Pump Water Heaters Compared

Watch this guide before you purchase a heat pump water heater

Matt Risinger, the host of the BUILD show and builder in Austin, Texas, is passionate about high performance construction. In this 33-minute video, Risinger compares the seven newest and upcoming heat pump water heaters on the market — some of which only require 120V plug-ins. One model is small enough to be tucked into a tight corner! It’s a long, but worthwhile watch for anyone ready to ditch their gas water heater.

The Case for Climate Hope

The Westminster Town Hall Forum welcomed Katharine Hayhoe, Chief Scientist for The Nature Conservancy, and an evangelical Christian, as their latest keynote speaker on 31 January 2022.

“You are the perfect person to do something about climate change. And the first step is talking about it. In the United States, 70% of people are already worried about climate change. 83% of mothers are worried. 86% of young people are worried. But only 8% of us are activated and doing anything about it. Why not? It’s because we don’t know what to do. We don’t know why it’s relevant to my life here and now, and we don’t know what to do to fix it.”
